I had plenty of Godzilla movies, but wanted to pick up (most of) the rest and it wasn't until I saw Sarah's video of the overview of her Godzilla collection that got my ass in gear to pick them up.

Had to ship most of them from America, dude why can't we get rid of region coding?

Anywhos I picked up a few of them through deals on, I guess, the now deceased HMV website. *sheds a tear* Hey, I bought BDs off them all the time, especially their "Exclusive" steelbooks. Sad to see those go. I can't say I'd walked in and bought a CD in the last 10 years though.

Some genre fans may have noticed the pick ups of Arrow releases... yeah love the bad horror flicks, and loving the releases that Arrow are giving them. The various cover art with each release, the posters, the essays and one came with a script (with the scenes that were not filmed.) #HorrorGeek

Sidenote - There would be more, but I got 3 of those "sorry you were out."(in bed) cards. Hey I can't sleep at the moment, and go to bed at 6am, so yeah I sleep in past the postman.

Any new releases or upcoming February releases I should look out for?

Hint - I like snazzy editions, lots of extras and steelbooks... shiny!

Don't Confuse My Laziness for Laziness

I feel I have been lax on my quest for the holysmokes Batman! the IMDb Top 250. We, yes you and me, are almost at the end of January and I've gotten hardly no where.

I have other marathons akin to the QT/RR-athon that covers some of the IMDB Top 250, so don't mistake my laziness and slowness of watching the IMDb Top 250 as actual laziness and slowness.

Upcoming a-thon-s

-Martin Scorsese Movies
-Pixar
-Disney
-Star Trek Movies
-Star Wars
-Clint Eastwood Movies
-Stanley Kubrick
-Comic book movies (split into smaller categories . re- movies leading into avengers, Nolan Batman trilogy, batman movies of the mostly 90s, Spidermans...)
-Speilberg
-Coens
-Carpenter
-Studio Ghibli
-Scott brothers
-Tim Burton
-Rocky movies (I reckon I have to marathon them at least once a year... I have a stupid crush on Rocky Balboa... *shhh* it's a guilty secret...)

Who wouldn't love that face?

(these a-thon-s pretty much explain to you, gentle or not so gentle reader, how my movie collection is ordered, no alphabetical for me!)

I find I enjoy a-thon-s more than randomly picking out a movie from the IMDb Top 250, though I will undoubtedly have to do that too....this week.

My Current Total - 17 (and stupidly hoping to double that in a week... lets crack on!)

End of #RodriguezWeek

The only movies in the QT/RR fortnight I have not watched, that I wanted to, so far is 'Natural Born Killers', 'The Faculty' and 'Grindhouse'. I needed a break from movies and wanted to tick a TV show that had been lying around for ever off instead of reeling off some movies.

(It was kind of a #RodriguezDay not week, as I got most of the movies I wanted to watch done within Monday... freeing me up for ticking off some tv shows and random movies)

So in addition to whatever I watch weekly... 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, Modern Family, Cougar Town (to people who may still be put off by the name... just watch it!!!), New Girl, The Vampire Diaries (Guilty non-pleasure... I do not know why I watch this show... oh yeah, Damon....

So fair enough, instead of watching the show I could google image him for 42 minutes a week...

but nope nope nnyope I can't do that since I'm already so far into the show I may as well keep going with it.

In other non-tangent, Archer was awesome this week.. isnt it always?

I watched 'American Horror Story' wrap up this week, I may have gasped and fist-pumped (ironically... neh I owned my fist-pump, no shame) at the ending. I cannot (but inevitably have to) wait to see where they go for season 3 (and which cast members will return.) I ain't even going to post spoilers, but if you are have not watched this show and love horror, were a fan of Nip/Tuck please give this a go. #HorrorSquad

I watched the cancelled series 'The Gates', yeah about vampires and succubus's... succubi... succubus..? And witches and shit, cause there can't be a show just about one supernatural type of beings without brining everything else into it. Yeah this wasn't up to much, it was worth the one viewing but there is a reason some shows are cancelled, I still have not found the reason (low ratings I know) that Firefly was cancelled.

I also ticked off 'A Young Doctors Notebook'... recommended. I didn't know anything about it before watching... which is how I like to go into some tv shows/movies.

Also also ticked off was 'Outcasts' a BBC series, usually all I watch from my own country is the odd chat show, a few comedy panel shows, the odd sitcom (currently Miranda and Mrs. Brown's Boys, I was dead against Mrs. Brown's Boys until I gave in and watched it.) and of course being a geek... Doctor Who. (cue gratuitous picture that gives me warm fuzzy feelings of Matt Smith as The Doctor in the newest decked out TARDIS)

I'm having a Haven catchup. In the past two years I've always watched this show this way... entire season at a time, it's never broken onto my "watch weekly" list. There is no actual list. I enjoy the show, even more now Adam Copeland is featured more regularly.

My favourite QT/RR movies in order of Awesomeness (imo, obviously it's not gonna be in somebody elses opinion now is it.)

Deathproof
Kill Bill
Django Unchained
Reservoir Dogs
Pulp Fiction
Inglorious Basterds
Jackie Brown

Planet Terror
From Dusk Till Dawn
The Faculty
Machete
Once Upon a Time in Mexico
Desperado
Spy Kids
Sin City

Disagree? I know I would with my list, I doubt its a popular opinion... Spy Kids before Sin City? I don't understand it either, I don't even own a Spy Kids movie but I like them more than the Sin City movie I do own. I make no sense.

What's your favourite QT/RR movies?

Day One - #RodriguezWeek

I thought I did a terrible job on the Tarantino week, barely made it, so I dug my heels in and went for it hammer and tong (what does "hammer and tong" even mean)...

I did not watch this one until I bought the DVD. I like the packaging, its the only one from the Reel Collection I have, bought in HMV many years ago.

Rating - 2

I watched this as a child and loved it, and it's still awesome. *heart* Antonio Banderas forever.

Rating - 4

Always enjoyed this one, the addition of Johnny Depp is, since I am female, most welcome.

Rating - 4

Yeah it looks cool, lots of style but its personally never really done anything for me.

Rating - 3

Yeah I watched all them in one long night of being ill and not being able to sleep. (Even when putting this post together I've watched Machete and am now watching From Dusk til Dawn, I don't own the sequels though I've seen them when first released, didn't ever feel the need to pick them up. Random "fact" From Dusk til Dawn is my grandads favourite movie.)

Day 20 Update

How far have I come in 20 days? Lets have a look at my IMDB list and see...

Current Total - 12

12 out of the 49 movies I've watched so far isn't too bad, right?

Could be 13 if 'Django Unchained' was in my list, it's not, but it is now on the ever changing IMDb Top 250.

Movie watching plans for next week is to follow up Tarantino Week with Rodriguez Week.

I hope to cover -

El Mariachi
Desperado
Once Upon a Time in Mexico
The Faculty
Sin City
Machete
From Dusk til Dawn
Grindhouse

Granted only Sin City is in the IMDb Top 250, but I can't not follow up a QT week by nothing other than RR.

What have I been watching TV wise this week?

This week saw the finale of Fringe, I cried. Archer season 4 began, it was so meta, the whole Bob's Burger tie-in was fantastic!

Parks and Recreation/30 Rock/Modern Family/Cougar Town were all hilarious...

New Girl wasn't bad, and 2 Broke Girls went to a new level of subtext, love it!

American Horror Story was all WTFrak? Looking forward to the finale this coming week.

Bones and Castle were the same as usual.

And that's pretty much all I'm caught up on.

Those shows and some sweet Raw and Smackdown. (I really don't have time for any other WWE programming. Sorry dudes at WWE, but as long as you do recaps on Smackdown of Mainevent... I'm good.)

'The Torment of Laurie Ann Cullom' (2013) Interview - Mark Dossett

'The Torment of Laurie Ann Cullom' (2013) Interview - Mark Dossett

First off could you tell readers about your latest project 'The Torment Of Laurie Ann Cullom'?

Set in 1988 long before cell phones and the internet were common household items. Laurie Ann Cullom who suffers from agoraphobia after being brutally attacked in a mall parking lot is now housebound. Her fear of the outside world was nothing compared to what she soon found inside her own home.

I have read and watched you talk about the horror genre in the past but where do you think the genre is headed?

I will go on record and make this prediction right now...Once WORLD WAR Z comes out with Brad Pitt...the zombie trend will fall off fast. As for the found footage stuff...I hope that goes away too. To me it's lazy film making at best.Just because you can go to Walmart and buy a $200 GoPro doesn't make you John Carpenter. I think people need to get back to the basics and tell a really good story with characters that people care about! I will say that season 1 of THE WALKING DEAD was amazing!!! Season 2...was like watching a zombie movie on the LIFETIME channel. Haven't seen season 3...but please tell me they use Laurie as "walker bait"!

Who are your favourite "Final Girls" in horror cinema?

I honestly don't have one.....I will be lame and say Jamie Lee Curtis in the original Halloween. Actually...I really liked Liv Tyler in THE STRANGERS.

You've said 2013 is the year for the Indie Horror film, what are the benefits of making independent movies?

For someone like me who clearly sees every frame of his film in his head....the benefits are huge! I answer to no one. No "money man" telling me I have to  change this scene or cast this person or I'm shutting you down.  Director Robert Rodriguez left Hollywood for that exact reason. He went back to Austin and is completely happy doing his thing. He is my blueprint business wise of what I hope to achieve. I am also making this movie for myself and not some demographic sheet some studio heads want to go by. I truly believe when you create for yourself that's when you find your true audience.

How has social media helped you?

I wouldn't be doing this interview right now without it. It has allowed me "the guy out of nowhere" to connect with his future audience literally overnight! Once I posted the trailer I had people tweeting me right away. I have met some amazing people and connected with them on not just a social level but a personal one. I have a handful of people on twitter who I actually talk to on the phone now.

I am on twitter all the time. @c_2_it and @rockbottompics

If it wasn't for that trailer and twitter, I would have never met those people. That trailer is not the real trailer.... that's my girlfriend and not an actress. It is to show people my vision of what this will look like. Think of it as a sketch concept. Shot with no money in the course of 8 hours. But that sketch has gotten alot of attention and will allow me to make the film I want to make!

Would you share with us what your earliest memories involving the Horror genre?

That's easy....1978 my dad took me to see Halloween...I was 9! That movie scared me for months straight! I would see Michael Myers everywhere. "Mark take out the trash"..." "But mom Michael is out there!"

Then when THE SHINING came on TV....the Kubrick film not the made for tv one. Seeing the twins in the hallway was the creepiest thing ever. The creepy thing about that movie I don't think people realize is the fact that it takes place mostly during the day or with the lights on. The scary stuff happens in perfectly lit places. When you can make things in wide open spaces and fully lit look creepy and give you goose bumps your doing something right! Great example besides the twins, is Jack walking up the stairs as Shelly is swinging the bat to keep him away. Big open space and lots of light.Still scary...you think any minute he is gonna kill her. It's almost like a slow motion chase scene.

What are your top 3 all time horror movies?

HALLOWEEN,THE SHINING and THE EXORCIST.

Excellent choices! What horror movies in, say the last 10 years, have impressed, scared and entertained you the most?

In no particular order

HIGH TENSION (2003 french film)
THE STRANGERS (2008)
SAW (2004 it was original at the time)
THE RING (2002)
THEM (2006 french film)
HOUSE OF THE DEVIL (2009)
SHAUN OF THE DEAD (2004 )
ZOMBIELAND (2009)
TUCKER and DALE VS EVIL (2010)
WRONG TURN (2003)
WOLF CREEK (2005)
THE LOVED ONES (2009)
28 DAYS LATER (2002 first time I saw zombies haul ass!)

A fantastic list, all horror fans should check off seeing those movies.

Who or what inspired you to make movies?

We always had videocameras in our house back in the 80's.....my dad was a football coach and he would bring them home after practice or games. So I would grab them and make stupid little movies. I used to edit the hard way...with the pause and  record/play button.

As an adult ...I would say seeing CLERKS by Kevin Smith and watching Quentin Tarantino make the coolest movies I have ever seen! Kevin made me feel I could do it and Quentin showed me what it could look like!

BTW....DJANGO UNCHAINED is simply awesome in every regard of what a film should be!

I've read that you have in mind 3 features. Could you give us any information on future projects?

You have done your homework and thank you for asking! After this film I have S.O.L IN TEXAS to do.
A suspense/ thriller. It's about Shelton Oliver Lange (all my titles will have my characters name in them.) who is just released from prison and is headed across Texas to collect some inheritance money. Within 24 hours things quickly turn from bad to worse. Think NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN if it was made by Quentin Tarantino.

The last one is THE LEGEND OF RED CLAW....a big budget western.

Thats why THE TORMENT OF LAURIE ANN CULLOM is so important...none of the other films will get made if this one doesn't.

I'm starting my career at 43. Scary but exciting at the same time.

What can horror fans do to help the project?

First and foremost contribute to the film. You get to own it even at $10...it's yours when it's completed. You can get your name in the end credits as well as appear in the film. I have all kinds of PERKS available. Just click here:  http://www.indiegogo.com/tolac2

Second...spread the word. If you don't have money but truly want to see this film...let everyone know. If you have a youtube channel talk about it. Post it on twitter and share it. But like everything else in life...if we just talk about it and don't do anything to support it then nothing will happen.

I do want to state that I would never want anyone to make any sacrifice in order to support my film. I couldn't sleep at night if I knew someone used their rent money for my film. Give what you can... even if it's just a video or a retweet to show support.

I'm on twitter a lot, thats what I am using to connect with horror fans and people in general. Stop by and say hi and let me know what you think of the trailer. I love talking with horror fans..I'm one..

Let me personally thank Mark for his time, and insight into the freedom and passion thriving in Independent movie making today.

Update on Tarantino Week

Quick post here folks...It's technically Thursday, something like -5 outside, and I've only watched 3 Tarantino movies so far.

I skipped right over True Romance (I'll get to it at the end of the week if I have time) and went from Reservoir Dogs into Pulp Fiction.

See I had Monday off, thought I had plenty of time so I caught up on other recent movies that I had been wanting to see like Les Miserables, Seven Psychopaths, Zero Dark Thirty and as you already know, Django Unchained.

Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction are 2 of my favourite QT movies, I don't think I can put them in order but Inglorious Basterds and Jackie Brown are at the bottom.

(I think I noticed when I double dipped on Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, and kinda wishing I'd picked up the gascan version of Reservoir Dogs too, to be fair I'd love to have all the Region 1 10th Anniversary covers... instead I own both on DVD and the shot glass version of Reservoir Dogs, and this steelbook of Pulp Fiction)

At first viewing I did not like Death Proof, cause I thought Planet Terror was AMAZEBALLS... almost literally with the ball thing. The more I viewed it the more I fell in love with the movie, and now the whole of Grindhouse is up there for me.

Hmmmm, *pondering trying to put his movies into an actual personal best to worst, well not worst just least best, list.... maybe I can do it by Sunday...*

Django Unchained (2012)

I know I don't go in for Awards Ceremonies  that is unless its for a movie I like. Then it should win everything and the award matters.

Heres what 'Django Unchained' has been nominated for.

Best Picture
Best Supporting Actor, Christoph Waltz
Best Original Screenplay
Best Cinematography
Best Sound Editing

What it's won thus far....This way to IMDb

It was superb! This needs to win 'Best Original Screenplay' (which sounds odd when you take into consideration how QT pulls in his insperation, but there's nobody who writes his unique way)

If anyone can spare $300 I'd like one of these....Spare $600 and let me have Django and Schultz.

Why is it so good?

The script.

Characters are well defined, given lots to do, lots of goals. Django has a clear goal, to get his wife back.

Obstacles are put in his way, and he grows as a character, as a man, learning along the way skills that will help him achieve his goal.

QT's movies can be almost 3 hours and not feel it because with every dialogue heavy scene, tension builds under the surface, tension that hints at major shit about to kick off. As a viewer I'm kept waiting in anticipation and when it comes, when the big gun fight, the deaths are delivered they are more than worth the wait. They are better for the wait.

When you think its over, there's more awesomness to come.

And damn if QT doesn't know how to write instant classic lines.

I'd saw the trailer once online previous to seeing the trailer in the cinema when I was with my sister, she looked to me "Huh? How are you quoting it already?" and by the time I saw the movie, I had more lines memorized.

And then there is the...

Acting.

The actors capture you into their world, the world of "The Southern".

Jamie Foxx as Django grows so much over the course of this movie. He is such a physical actor, his whole demeanour changes as he overcomes obstacles, is given worth and freedom.

Christoph Waltz's portrayal as Schultz makes me want to re-watch this movie immediately, if not sooner. He is so disgusted by slavery that it is him that sets the entire movie in motion. He is so polite, a stranger in a strange land, yet there is something under the surface that tells you he can handle his shit, that he may be polite but it does not mean he is not the most dangerous man in the room.

I think Christoph Waltz is my new love.

Leo DiCaprio is a scene stealer, and stealing it from him is Sam Jackson. The two of them leap out the screen, grab you by the collar and make you take notice.

Rating - 6
